Forest for the trees
My mother used to like those Hawaiian Host macadamia nut chocolates that we bought from Hawaii. I used to hate them because I thought the macadamia nuts got in the way of all that good chocolate.
Why waste all that space on nuts when it could be filled with wonderful chocolate?
I think I was missing the forest for the trees.
I had yet to realize the power of synergy. That putting two and two together sometimes meant something other than or greater than four.
On the rare occasion that I sneak out to the balcony for a cigarette, I like to watch my apartment through the window and see the cats and the Palinode go about their business without me present. I’m not there! You guys continue to exist! Life is an amazing thing.
Now, synergy is the buzzword. (Or has it already become a has-been?)
Everything is done and combined to achieve synergy, but sometimes the blind leading the blind ends up with two people in a very deep ditch. These days, it’s a luxury to simply stop and take a look before leaping, because decisions must be made in a split second, or money is lost. So when one is inclined to blindly assume there will be synergy because two have been combined, then one is committing a grave mistake.
A wise boss once told me, “Your time is your baby. Guard it jealously and don’t let anyone take it away.” Don’t let time, or the lack thereof, stop you from achieving what is best.
Life went on regardless. Life goes on regardless. Whether we’re in the room with the cats or out on the balcony staring in, life goes on.
